See your local rank from every block — not just your office.
Google's map pack changes street-by-street. The Grid Scanner checks your ranking from dozens of points around your business and shows the result as a color-coded heatmap. You finally know where you actually win — and where you don't.

How the Grid Scanner works
Three steps, no setup, real results from real Google searches.
Pick your location and keyword
Add your business address and the keyword you want to rank for. We'll generate a grid of search points around the address — you choose the size (3×3 up to 21×21) and how far apart the points sit.
We search Google from each point
Every grid point is its own Google query, sent with that exact lat/lng so the local map pack reflects what someone standing at that street corner would actually see. Points fill in live on the map as they complete — a 7×7 grid typically finishes in two to three minutes.
Get a heatmap of your real coverage
Each point is color-coded by your rank — green where you win, red where you don't show up. Click any point for the full SERP. Track competitors on the same map. Schedule weekly or monthly to watch the trend.
Why a grid beats a single rank check
One rank from one IP tells you almost nothing about local SEO. The grid is what local actually looks like.
Local rank isn't a number — it's a map
Google personalizes the map pack by physical location. Your business might be #1 from your office and missing entirely from the strip mall three blocks over. A single rank check from one IP can't see that.
Find your blind spots
The heatmap makes weak coverage obvious in seconds. Whole neighborhoods where you don't show up become red zones — that's where to focus your link building, GBP optimization, and content.
Track competitors on the same grid
Add up to 5 competitor domains per location. Every grid scan records their ranks too, so you can see exactly where they own the map pack — and where they don't.
Schedule it and forget it
Set up weekly, biweekly, or monthly recurring grid scans per location. We email you when each scan finishes. Watch your coverage map evolve over months without lifting a finger.
The complete guide
Local Map-Pack rank tracking, explained
A geo-grid rank scan answers the question a single rank check can't: not “where do I rank?” but “where do I rank from every corner of the area I serve?” Because Google's Map Pack shifts with the searcher's location, your local rank is really a map — not a number.
What is a geo-grid rank scan?
A geo-grid rank scan lays an evenly spaced grid of points over the area around your business and runs a real Google search from each one. At every point it records where you land in the Map Pack — the three-business box at the top of local results — then colors the point by your rank: green where you're winning, red where you don't appear. The finished scan is a heatmap of your real visibility across the whole area, not a single position pulled from one spot.
It's the difference between “we rank #3 for plumber” and “we're #1 within two miles, #8 across the river, and nowhere on the north side” — and only the second tells you where to do the work.
What Google ranks the Map Pack on
Google has been consistent that local-pack rankings come down to three factors:
- Proximity — how close the business is to the searcher. This is why your rank changes block to block, and why a grid scan exists at all.
- Relevance — how well your Google Business Profile and website match the search: categories, services, and on-page content.
- Prominence — how well-known and trusted you are: review volume and rating, links, citations, and overall web presence.
You can't move your building, so proximity sets a natural ceiling on how far your green zone reaches. Relevance and prominence are the levers that widen it — and the heatmap shows you exactly how far you're reaching today.
How to read your heatmap
Each point is colored by your Map-Pack position there — typically green for a top-three finish, yellow for the rest of page one, and red where you don't appear. Read it three ways:
- Coverage — what share of points show you at all. A field of red means whole neighborhoods can't find you.
- Shape — green clustered tight around your address and fading fast is a proximity-bound business; green reaching across the map means your relevance and prominence are carrying you past competitors who sit closer to the searcher.
- Trend — rerun on a schedule and watch the green spread (or retreat) as your SEO work lands. One scan is a snapshot; the trend is the story you show a client.
Choosing your grid size and spacing
Two settings define a scan: how many points (grid size) and how far apart they sit (spacing). Together they set how much ground you cover and the detail you see it in.
- A 7×7 at 0.5-mile spacing covers roughly a 3.5-mile square — a sensible default for a business serving one town or neighborhood.
- Service-area businesses — plumbers, locksmiths, HVAC — usually want a bigger grid (11×11 or 15×15) to reach the edges of their radius, even at wider spacing.
- Tighter spacing gives more detail in a dense city; wider spacing covers more ground for a rural service area.
Because every point costs one SERP credit, a bigger grid costs more per run — so match the grid to the area you actually serve rather than scanning ground you'll never win a customer from. You can run any odd size from 3×3 up to 21×21.
Map-Pack rank vs. organic rank
The grid scanner tracks the Map Pack — the local map box. It doesn't track the blue-link organic results below it, which are ranked on different signals and don't shift street-to-street the way the pack does. Those are the job of the Organic Rank Tracker, which follows your keyword position by city over time. Most local SEO work watches both — which is why every paid plan includes both tools on one shared credit pool.
